John Allan Speicher, third-born son of Kenneth and Helen Speicher died on June 20, 2022, at Bridgewater Healthcare. A gentle writer of philosophical musings in his later years, the Eagle Scout and National Merit Scholarship Award Finalist attended Hamilton Southeastern High School, graduating tied for Salutatorian, having excelled at each of the major sports there, and usually snagging one of several top acting spots in every musical performed. He was also active in the High School band as a trombonist; a church choir and active member at Central Christian Church in downtown Indianapolis; and beloved by students and adults for his integrity, intelligence, friendship, and self-deprecating humor.
After High School, John attended Swarthmore College in PA for his first two years in college, then transferred to DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, to be closer to family and local friends. He graduated there in 1976 with a BA in Economics. John was also an attorney of Indiana who passed the bar in 1979 after attending Law School at the University of Toledo, OH, graduating that year, as well.
After much travel, John came home to work with his father, brother, and sister-in-law, in Indianapolis; then retired to attend to his first love: writing. He will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his sister, Susan Speicher (Geoff) Lee; two sisters-in-law, Jackie Speicher and Kathryn Speicher; nephew, Gordon (Samantha) Lee; nieces, Jill, Tracey, and Stephanie Speicher, and Lauren Lee; step-mother, Kathleen Oldham Speicher; and step-brother, Bruce Oldham. He was preceded in passing by his parents, Kenneth E. Speicher and Helen Ross (Smith) Speicher; two brothers, David Ross Speicher and Stephen Lee Speicher; and a step-brother, John Oldham.
There will not be any public services. Arrangements were entrusted to Flanner Buchanan – Carmel.
