John Albert Onda, 90, of Indianapolis, IN passed away on May 13, 2021. John was born in Gary, IN on June 28, 1930 to parents, John and Mary (Hocza) Onda. John served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. During his career, John worked as a branch manager for I.B.M, retiring in 1989.
John was an active member of Holy Spirit Parish at Geist. He was also a member of the Jaycees and was a proud Cub Master of Troop #409 (South Holland, IL), when his son was younger.
John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Janice L. (Murdock) Onda; children: John David “Dave” Onda (Amy), Susan Hodges (David) and Sharon Calderone (Jamie); grandchildren: Caitlind Hoff (Jason), Cassandra Ewen, Michael Ewen, Samuel “Sam” Calderone and Alex Calderone; great-granddaughter, Adeline Hoff; brother, Charles Robert Onda (Harriet); and many other loving extended family members and beloved friends.
John was preceded in death by his sister, Marlene Elizabeth Woodruff.
Friends may call from 5:00pm until 8:00pm, Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am, Friday, May 21, 2021 at Holy Spirit Parish at Geist, 10350 Glaser Way, Fishers. Burial will follow the mass in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
