John A. Friend, Sr.

John A. Friend, Sr., 81, of Indianapolis, IN passed away unexpectedly October 30, 2021. He was born August 10, 1940 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Charles R. and Mary M. (Templeton) Friend. John was owner of D and J Drywall Company for over 40 years. He was a true family man and enjoyed spending time with his family. He had a very loving heart and shared that love with many. He was a Mason, member of the Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite, member of the Murat Shrine, where he served as Potentate in 2002. He dearly loved the work that the Shrine provides, especially for the children, and was involved in transporting them to the hospital for treatments. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. John is survived by his loving wife, Dona P. (Baker) Friend, children, Charles Friend, Donald Friend, John Friend, Jr., Patricia Rice, Sophia “RE” Friend, 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, his sisters, Margaret Miles, Doris Swoveland, and his ever faithful companion, Scout. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Stillabar. Services will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 2PM at Flanner Buchanan – Decatur Township with visitation there from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM. John will be laid to rest at West Newton Cemetery, West Newton, IN. The family request any memorial contributions be made to the Shriner Children’s Hospital.
