Joellen Striebel

February 9, 1943 — August 13, 2018

Carmel, Indiana

Joellen Striebel, 75, passed away on August 13, 2018 at her home in Carmel, Indiana.

Joellen was born on February 9, 1943 in Kokomo, Indiana as the youngest child of Robey and Lela Hardy.  She was a 1961 graduate of Kokomo High School.  Always blessed with an innate sense of style, she enrolled at the interior design program Purdue University.  While there, a chance meeting in the halls of the chemistry building lead to her connecting with the love of her life, Joe Striebel.  They were married on November 14, 1965 and enjoyed 52 years together.  Through those years, together they enjoyed all of life’s joys as well as a few of its trials and tribulations.  However, what never changed through the passage of time was their love and devotion to one another.  Throughout their marriage, they enjoyed dining out, traveling, and simply any opportunity to spend time together.

A talented cook and conversationalist, Joellen was the consummate host.  While always a woman of great beauty and dignity, underlying that beautiful exterior lay a steely resolve to follow her own views of the world and to fiercely protect those she loved.  A devoted mother and grandmother, their well-being was always foremost on her mind.  They will carry forward long into the future the memory of her as a rare woman of grace and refinement who at the same time always had the common touch.

Surviving Joellen is her beloved husband, Kenneth “Joe” Striebel, son, Matthew (Linda) Striebel, grandchildren, Hunter and Mason Striebel, son-in-law, Brad Kalas, sister Nancy (Jim) Dishinger, brother-in-laws Michael (Elizabeth) and Steve (Judi) Striebel, sister-in-law, Susan French, their families, and many other much-loved friends too numerous to name.  Preceding Joellen in death was her dear daughter, Amy Striebel Kalas.

A celebration of Joellen’s life will be held on Monday, September 3 at 4:30 p.m. at the Ritz-Charles Garden Pavilion at 12156 N. Meridian Street, Carmel, Indiana.  Updates on the details of the memorial to come. A private interment will occur at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Joellen to Wheeler Mission, 205 East New York Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204 (https://wheelermission.org/) or Merciful H.E.L.P. Center Food Pantry, 1045 West 146th Street, Suite A, Carmel, IN 46032 (http://mercifulhelpcenter.org/)
