Joanne M. Nelson

Joanne M. Nelson, 84, Carmel, passed away November 19, 2022. She was born in Brooklyn, NY to Joseph and Anna (Olhant) Johnston. Joanne was an active member of King of Glory Lutheran Church and a member of the Eastern Star. She graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, NY. She and George met when they were both in high school. She was a Rainbow Girl and George was in DeMolay. They married June 21, 1958, and lived in West Caldwell, NJ before moving to Carmel in 1972.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna Johnston, son, Eric Nelson, and son-in-law, Jon Hill.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, George Robert Nelson, children, Lori Hill, Lelia (Dave) George, Howard (Laura) Nelson, grandchildren, Michelle Hill (David Ward), Andrea (Troy) Wilson, Michael (Hannah) Wyatt, David George, Haley (Austin) Hartwick, Stacey George (Jared Renner), Brittney George, Lindsey George, Brendon Nelson, and Ryan (Dienes) Nelson, and eight great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Sunday November 27th from 11am to 1pm at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Rd. Indianapolis. Funeral services will begin there at 1pm. Online condolences may be shared at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
