Joanne Louise Dufloth Ellis was born to Harold and Florence Dufloth in Mitchell, South Dakota, on November 20, 1946. She passed away peacefully on September 20, 2024, surrounded by her family. Joanne, a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, influenced countless lives as a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, educator, and cancer fighter. Cancer did not defeat her. Graciously, she communicated, “Being a Christian does not make you immune to the ills of society but gives the power to overcome.” This testimony provided inspiration and perspective to thousands of individuals walking roads of suffering, many who never personally knew her. Regardless of what she faced, her demeanor of joy, love, and kindness never wavered. Her marriage of 59 years to her husband Chuck significantly impacted those who had the opportunity to know the couple. Her love for her children and grandchildren knew no bounds.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Florence (Logan) Dufloth, and her siblings, Donna (Dufloth) Langford and Jerry Dufloth. She is survived by her loving husband, Charles Ellis, her children Brian (Amy) Ellis, Brent (Christy) Ellis, Eric (Stephanie) Ellis, Nicole (Matt) Bramlet, and her grandchildren Charlie (Emily White) Ellis, Ethan (Somy Kim) Ellis, Lainey (Evan) Kaullen, Claudia (Alex) Reinbold, Gavin Ellis, Elias Bramlet, Micah Bramlet, Caroline Ellis, Chloe Ellis, Joey Ellis, Lydia Bramlet and Jude Bramlet.
Visitation will be held on September 28, 2024, from 9-11AM at John Wesley Free Methodist Church, 5900 W 46th Street, Indianapolis, IN. The funeral service will follow at 11AM at John Wesley, with Brent Ellis officiating. A light lunch will be served at the conclusion of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joanne’s honor to Spring Arbor University and Greenville University.
