Joanne E. Moran-Braier

Indianapolis

Joanne Roach Moran Braier passed away on August 4, 2018. Her Roman Catholic faith was the guiding force of her life, and it offered her comfort in her own times of sorrow, including the passing of her first husband Leo Jerome “Jerry” Moran in 1979 and her second husband William “Bill” Braier in 2002. Joanne was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joanne had a special relationship and reverence for the Blessed Mother, making pilgrimages to Medjugorje and other places where the Virgin Mary appeared. She attended daily Mass, frequently prayed the Rosary, and was involved in her parish communities, notably St. Michael the Archangel where she was a parishioner for more than 50 years. She also was dedicated to the Divine Mercy Adoration Chapel and helped others find peace in Eucharistic adoration. She valued and respected children and their thoughts and ideas, listening carefully and intently and watching out for those who needed extra support. While raising her own seven children after becoming a young widow, she returned to school to become a nurse and cared for many babies and children at Riley Hospital for Children. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the primary beneficiaries of this unfailing intuition and kindness, though she played a special role in the lives of every baby and child who was rocked in her arms or was met with fresh chocolate chip cookies or a chocolate malt upon entering her home. Joanne was a graduate of St. Anthony School and St. John’s Academy and held those friendships dear throughout her life. She attended Marian College. She considered herself lucky to have had many wonderful friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Anna Roach and her brother John Roach. She is survived by her children Karen (Stephen) Beyer, Therese Ann (Jeff) Hannah, Donald (Rhonda) Moran, Mary Pat (Chris) O’Connor, Michael (Lisa) Moran, Ginny (Keith) Phillips, and Kenneth (Lynne) Moran; and William (Kathy), David (Beth), Donald (Ann) and Nancy Braier, Mary Lewis and Paulette (Steve) Smithgall, and her sister Mary Catherine Halterman. She also is survived by her grandchildren Katie Zarich, Daniel and Patrick Beyer, Christine Zetzl, Anna Little, Mary, Tom, Michael, Kathleen, Ellen and Grace Hannah, David and Daniel Moran, Rachel Crisman, Lisa Cole, Matt and Kara O’Connor, Caity Rose, Casey, Leo and Will Moran, Evan, Andrea, Eric and Alyse Phillips, Lanie, Jack and Carly Moran, and Lauren and Zachary Braier, and by her great grandchildren Blaise and Ambrose Zarich, Mabel and Milo Beyer, Joe Hannah, Henry, Sylvia and Lydia Moran, and Nolan Phillips. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Divine Mercy Adoration Chapel, attention Dyan Huey, 3356 West 30th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46222.
