Joanna "Jenny" Bemis

On 18 March 2018, Joanna Jennings “Jenny” Bemis was taken home to the Lord. Jenny was a resident in Carolina Village in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Jenny was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. She graduated from Butler University with honors in English and Spanish along with membership in Kappa Kappa Gamma, Scarlet Quill, Spanish Club, YWCA, Panhellenic Council as well as many other clubs. Jenny married her college sweetheart, Thomas Bemis and they shared 68 wonderful years together. Jenny taught school in Lee Center, Grand Detour, and Dixon Illinois for 30 years before retiring. Jenny and Tom moved to the Hendersonville – Flat Rock area in 1989 and enjoyed 29 years there. While in the area, Jenny and Tom thoroughly enjoyed their mountain home at the end of Pheasant Run and all the people along the way. Jenny loved playing bridge, golf, dancing and exercise. Tom and Jenny were members of the First UMC of Hendersonville and was active many years with the North Carolina P.E.O Sisterhood.
Jenny was a special lady to all, favorite teacher, and very loved by her family.
Jenny is survived by her husband Thomas Bemis III, Hendersonville, sons Thomas M. Bemis, Arlington, MA, Tim(Betty) Bemis, Indianapolis, IN, Grandchildren, Sara Bemis, Alex and Emily Voerman, Benjamin Bemis, Indianapolis, IN.
A memorial service will be held at Carolina Village in Hendersonville, North Carolina in the Village Hall on Saturday, 14 April at 9:30 AM. There will be a graveside service in Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana on Sunday, 25 March at 2 PM.
