JoAnn Martz, 96, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on January 4, 2024. She was born on September 7, 1927, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to parents, Wade and Lydia (Hacker) Morgan.
JoAnn was a graduate of Tech High School in 1945 and later received her associate degree in nursing from Indiana University. She spent her entire career in nursing at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis, retiring at age 78.
Throughout her nursing career as an OB nurse, JoAnn played an instrumental role in bringing new life into the world. Her compassion and expertise were evident with every newborn baby and mother that she cared for. Countless families were blessed to have her by their side during such precious moments.
Above all else, family was at the center of JoAnn's life. She dedicated herself entirely to caring for her children, grandchildren, and later, her great-grandchildren, dedicating her life to their care and happiness. Her nurturing spirit ensured that those closest to her always felt loved and supported.
A strong Christian woman, JoAnn exemplified the virtues of love, kindness, and generosity. Her faith served as a guiding light in both her personal and professional life. She was known for her selflessness as she consistently put others before herself. Whether it was comforting an expectant mother or offering a listening ear to a colleague, JoAnn always had a compassionate heart.
JoAnn is survived by her children, George “Rocky” Martz, Susie (Jim) Hansen, Steve (Teresa) Martz, Dennis “Denny” Martz, Chris Martz, and Kimberly (Steve) Hunter; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wade and Lydia Morgan; her siblings, Harry Morgan, Mary Martz, and Walter Morgan; and her grandson, Ryan Morris.
To celebrate her life, a visitation for JoAnn will be from 10am-1:50pm on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Christ the Savior Lutheran Church (10500 126th St., Fishers, IN 46038), with a funeral service following at 2pm. For those unable to attend, the service will be live-streamed. It will be viewable on the church website: https://christthesavior.org/watch-live.
A private inurnment will take place at a later date.
