Indianapolis, IN– Joan “Jody” Myers passed away on July 11, 2023, after being comforted by family. Joan was born to John and Gertrude (Mead) Steidle on September 13, 1931, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was 91 years old.
Jody graduated with her undergraduate degree in Art Education from Butler University in 1954, which would turn out to be a very busy year for her, as it was also the year she married the love of her life, Edward William Myers, Jr. Jody would go on to obtain her master’s degree, attending Herron School of Art, where she utilized her degree to teach art in elementary schools for the Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
She enjoyed many interests including painting and all forms of artwork, tending her garden, spending time on Pretty Lake, water aerobics, reading, trivia and various card games, attracting birds, cooking, storytelling, and shopping. She shared her knowledge and interests with her family and friends. Of all of her interests, she mostly enjoyed spending time with her family, which was the brightest part of her life. She had an infectious belly laugh that you couldn’t help but join in! These moments are attached to many fond memories that we will treasure forever!
In addition to her parents, Joan is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Myers.
Joan is survived by her children, Edward Myers III (Kathy), James Andrew Myers (Mary), John Richard Myers (Laura), Kathryn Leasure (Kent); grandchildren Scott Jacobsen, Christopher Jacobsen, Katie Valentine, Kaylee Messler, Jessica Leasure, Patrick Myers, Michelle Myers, Andrew Myers, Ellen Myers, Jackie Myers, Ian Myers, and Michael Myers; and great-grandchildren Cairon Blackwell, Ja’zay Jacobsen, Juliet Jacobsen, Aubrey Jacobsen, Parker Jacobsen, and Madison Jacobsen.
Family and friends will gather for visitation on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, from 12 pm – 2 pm at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229). Funeral services will follow at 2 pm.
