Joan W. McFarland

Joan W. McFarland, 81 of Brookville, Ohio, formerly of Greenfield, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025. She was born in Lima, Ohio, and her parents were Martin O. Kaufman and Eleanor (Bailey) Kaufman.

Joan grew up in the Dayton, Ohio area and graduated from Fairview High School. Joan spent the earlier years of her life in Ohio, but most of her recent years in Indiana where she resided with her husband of over 50 years, Dean. Joan and Dean worked together for many years at their home building business and also built lifelong friendships with co-workers and their families. In Joan and Dean’s spare time, they were involved in mission trips and also supporting local organizations for those in need. Joan loved and was always involved in music. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and playing piano. Joan loved her friends and family and enjoyed the time she spent with them.

Joan was proceeded in death by her parents, her brother, John Kaufman, her husband, Dean, and her daughter, Tiffany Carter. Joan is survived by her brother, Wayne (Linda) Kaufman of Fishers, Indiana. She is also survived by her children: Timberly Apple of Kansas City, Missouri, Tim (Sarah) and Todd (Tricia) Buxton of New Lebanon, Ohio, and son-in-law Lee Carter of Hancock County, Indiana. She also had numerous grandchildren: Grant, Kathleen, Kyle, Matthew, Luke, Molly, Taylor, Madison, Jordan and Chloe, as well as several great-grandchildren, and nephews Brett and Nicholas.

Per Joan’s wishes, no public service will be held. The family will be celebrating Joan’s life privately. Joan will be laid to rest on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Fishers, Indiana with her husband and daughter.
