Joan M. Fey, 90 , of Indianapolis passed away on Tuesday October 30th 2018. Joan was born June 13th, 1928 in Indianapolis, In. to the late Paul & Lillian Wheeler.
She is survived by her sister Marion Gosnell of Sebring Florida. She is also survived by her five children, Janet (Mike Anderson), Joe (Joy) Fey, Keith (Barb) Fey, Tim (Geri) Fey and Steve (Marni) Fey, 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband George Eddie Fey.
Joan grew up in “The Valley” and attended Washington High School graduating with the class of 1947, where she met her future husband Eddie Fey. Eddie and Joan were married in 1950 for 63 years establishing the family foundation based on faith, hard work, fairness, honesty and integrity for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to carry on for generations to come.
Joan was employed at HP Wasson Dept store located downtown on the circle, before she settled down on the southeast side of Indianapolis to run the Fey household.
Joan was a charter member of Nativity Parish and in her younger days was deeply involved with the annual parish festival. This is where Joan practiced her faith and made numerous lifelong friends. Joan was a member of the Chi Kappa Chi Sorority helping with numerous fundraising events. She was also a member of a group called Homemakers who donated hand made goods to the Riley Children’s Guild.
Joan wasn’t afraid of technology, in fact she embraced it, emailing, texting, using her I Pad and I Phone as well as reading many free or .99 cent books on her Kindle. Other favorite pastimes included providing a little schooling for many of her opponents during a friendly game of Euchre or Poker regardless of ones age. Just ask her neighbors at Churchman Woods who a few affectionately called Joan “Diamond Lil”.
If you were ever so lucky as to have Joan crochet you an afghan it became a treasured favorite for your entire family. We know she bought the yarn from local retailers but the love that she added to every stitch continues to keep families wrapped in a blanket of warmth, a sense of security and will always bring back a fond memory of Joan.
The family would like to especially thank the staff at Franciscan Health Hospice House and In Home Hospice Services for their kind and compassionate care that they provided for Joan during her brief visit. Last but certainly not least we would like to thank Father Jerry Kirkhoff who always seems to exude a sense of calmness and grace even in the midst of the most difficult of times.
Visitation will be from 9-11:00am on Saturday November 3rd at Nativity Catholic Church located at 7225 Southeastern Ave Indianapolis In. 46239, followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial at the church, Entombment at Calvary Cemetery.
