Joan G Baskin

Naperville

Joan G Baskin (nee Wagoner) of Naperville, IL, formerly of Kokomo, IN, Cleveland OH, Wheaton, IL and Zionsville, IN, age 88 , passed away December 16,2018.   Joan was born in Rochester, IN in 1930 to her parents Milo Omer and Mabel Ruth Wagoner. Joan often told stories of life on her grandparent’s farm as a child and of her father whom she admired so much. She told of how hard working her parents were and how they taught her the principle of fairness. She spoke of her father owning a gas station during the Great Depression, how he allowed people to buy their gas on credit knowing he would never be repaid. He would say treat others as you want to be treated yourself which became one of Joan’s guiding principles Joan had 2 brothers. She was preceded in death by her brother Bobby when they were only children and then along came her brother Bill who teased her at every turn and always had fun with her. Joan married Leonard Johnson when she 19 and had two happy years with him before he passed away. Through her life long friend Arlene Turner, Joan met Charles (Chuck) Baskin. They married on September 18, 1954 and became lifelong companions of 53 years. Joan’s proudest accomplishments were her two sons Curt and Craig and her four grandchildren. She loved to brag about how smart her grandchildren are and share with a smile that her “boys” turned out “alright.” Joan was a very conscientious and hardworking wife and mother. Their family home was immaculate and she enjoyed decorating and cooking lovely meals. She worked outside the home at Haynes-Stellite and Langen-Hager Insurance. When Chuck and Joan retired and moved to the quaint town of Zionsville, IN. They enjoyed renewing old friendships from their Kokomo years as well as making many new and wonderful friends. Throughout their years together they enjoyed travel and were able to spend time in England, (Joan’s favorite) Scotland, Wales, Austria, Germany, Italy, and even Tahiti. Joan enjoyed Bridge Club, Gardening Club and Newcomers. Joan was the loving wife of Chuck Baskin: mother of Curt (MaryBeth) Baskin and Craig (Sherry) Baskin: adoring grandmother of Brandon, Catherine, Nicholas, and Kyle Baskin, dear sister of William (Dorothy) Wagoner and the late Bobby Wagoner, and was blessed with nieces, nephews and many brother and sisters in law. Visitation will be at 1:00pm and funeral service at 2:00pm on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Flanner Buchanan Funeral Center in Zionsville, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, www.jdrf.org. Online condolences may be made at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
