Joan Elaine Jackson

A few minutes past noon on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, Joan Elaine McHaffie Jackson went to be with the Lord. She was surrounded by family as she passed into eternity. A resident of Westfield, Indiana for nearly fifty years, Joan was born on December 20, 1946, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Robert Earnest and Mary Florence McHaffie. She was the oldest of their three children.

Joan graduated from North Central High School in 1965, and then Indiana University in 1969. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She was a loving homemaker and an excellent custom home builder. She was an active member of Northview Christian Church in Carmel.

She is succeeded by her husband, Tom Jackson, her two children, Ellen Jackson (Krag Oglesby) and Mike (Emily) Jackson, brother Tom (Amy) McHaffie, and sister Amy (Tony) Mansfield, and her four grandchildren, Max Oglesby, Cooper Jackson, Isabelle Jackson, and Esther Jackson. She was known by friends and family as Joan, Joanie, The Joaner, and Mamama to her grandkids.

Much like her own mother, Joan was a dedicated homemaker while raising her family. When her children became adults, she jumped into other activities and work such as home construction, board service, volunteering, and spending time with her friends. Her passion for over fifty years was doing whatever she could to serve and follow Jesus. Her active involvements included organizing the Brown County Woman’s retreat, leading Bible studies, and the planting and development of churches and para-church ministries. She was a trusted and wise counselor to many: an excellent listener, a seeker and proclaimer of truth, and an excellent debater. Joan was always one you could count on for directness and honesty. She will be remembered and cherished by friends and family for her sharp wit and her generous nature.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 18th, from 1-4pm. A service in her memory will follow at 4pm at Flanner & Buchanan in Carmel, IN. Joan will be laid to rest at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
