Joan E. Askren
86, of Indianapolis, IN passed away February 7, 2017. She was born in Champaign, Illinois on March 2, 1930 to the Late Harold and Josephine (Welch) Cadle. Joan was a graduate of Broad Ripple High School, Class of 1948, and married her husband Sherman on October 1, 1950. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader, a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years, loved gardening, and had a heart for missionary work. Joan was also an accomplished crafter: she won Blue Ribbons at the Indiana State Fair for her sewing, quilting, cross-stitching, knitting, and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Mary Josephine Kelly; her grandchildren, Joel and John; and her siblings: Charles Cadle and Suzanne Cadle-Barker.
Joan is survived by her children: Martha Joan Clements (Dennis), Daniel Lee Askren (Lynda), Sarah Ann Kinney (John “Mike”), Deborah Lynn Livengood (Kurt), and Andrew George Askren (Melanie); her son-in-law, George Kelly; her grandchildren: Georgina, George, Joy, Ruth, Hannah, Amanda, Amelia, Aaron, Allan, Elizabeth, Rebekah, Joshua, Anna, Jason, De-Mone, Harold, Charles, and Natasha; twenty two great-grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends.
Friends may call from 6pm until 8pm, Friday, February 10, 2017 at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis; with services to follow at 11am on Saturday February 11 at the funeral center. Entombment will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery.
