Joan Dillon Mays

January 15, 1939 — October 26, 2017

Joan Dillon Mays, age 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 26, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Riley Mays. She was born on January 15, 1939 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Thomas and Virginia Dillon.

A graduate of Shortridge High School, she attended college at Ohio Wesleyan University and later graduated from Butler University where she was a proud member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.

She is survived by her children, Laura Croner (Hallie), Mike Croner (Sarah), Steve Croner (Jennifer), Jim Croner (Dana), Julie Welp (Eric), Jenny Graves (David), stepdaughter Becky Keelor (Tim), 14 grandchildren and her brother, Bill Dillon (Mickey).

Joanie dedicated her life to serving others as a teacher, volunteering at her children's school and leading and facilitating many Bible studies in Student Ministries. Later she became the director of Peter Panda Preschool. She finished her teaching career at Carmel Clay Schools as a substitute teacher where she enjoyed the opportunity to see some of her grandchildren in class.

Her greatest joy in life was being a mother and a “Nana”. She will be remembered for her love of Jesus, her kind spirit and beautiful smile.

Visitation is from 10am until 1pm on November 3, 2017 at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 E. Carmel Drive, Carmel, IN. The funeral service will follow the visitation at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis immediately following. Contributions in Joanie’s honor can be made to CRU Carmel, 2209 Tam O Shanter Court, Carmel, IN 46032.
