Joalyn Lyda Harkey, 90, of Indianapolis passed away December 20, 2015. She was born November 28, 1925 in Indianapolis to the late Thomas Rae and Martha Naomi Lyda. She graduated from Shortridge High School in 1943 and from Purdue University in 1947. Joalyn was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was past president of the KKG Indianapolis Alumni Association (1961-63), received the Kappa Honor Key Award in 1968, and served on the KKG Butler Mu Chapter House Board. In 2015, Joalyn proudly celebrated her 71st anniversary as a Kappa.
Joalyn was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and volunteered with Crossroads Rehabilitation Center and Carmel Symphony Orchestra. She supported Boy Scout Troop 133 where both of her sons were Eagle Scouts.
Joalyn was the widow of John Franklin Harkey. She is survived by her sons, James Allen (Patricia) Harkey and John Thomas (Judy) Harkey; grandchildren Anjula Harkey, Laura Rohrer, Julia and Johnny Harkey. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marcia Smith.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, December 26 at Flanner and Buchanan-Carmel, where friends are invited to gather from 11:00 am until the time of the service.
