Jimmie R. Tinsley

September 14, 1936 — July 7, 2017

Jimmie Ross Tinsley, 80, died Friday, July 7, 2017 after an extended illness. His family brought him home the day before and therefore, those he loved surrounded him and music played as he walked towards Jesus and the gates of Heaven. Jim was born in Chandler, Oklahoma September 14, 1936 to Ross William Tinsley and Naomi Macy Troutt. They would have been so proud of the man he had become. Jim was the eldest of six children. He married Janice M. Moody on June 13, 1958 and they celebrated 59 years together last month. She was the love of his life. They met when Jan’s dad became the pastor of their church and she was 13. To say they were life partners is not a stretch. Jim and Jan had three daughters and seven grandchildren. Jim loved and cherished his family. He attended countless sporting events and performances of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed golfing, camping, watching the Indianapolis Colts, playing games, painting and other creative endeavors. Over the years, he served his community as an officer of the Anderson Exchange Club, College Corner Elementary PTO President, Park Place Church of God youth counselor and a choir member at the Church at the Crossing. Jim had a positive impact on many. As a young man, Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Unknown to many, Jim was recruited to serve as a member of the highly-selective Security Squadron, a secretive branch that operated during the cold war to monitor, collect and interpret military voice and electronic signals from the former Soviet Union. He studied business administration at Anderson and Ball State Universities. Jim was an accomplished underwriter and was loved and appreciated by his co-workers. He served in the field of insurance underwriting for over four decades, eventually retiring from American United Life Insurance Company/One America in 2002 as the Assistant Vice President. His parents preceded Jim in death. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his surviving wife, Jan; his three daughters: Sherry Thomas (Rex), Tracey Akers (Troy), Leslie Gray (Darrin); his grandchildren: Cooper, Tyler, Tara, Clay, Evan, Shelby and Zachary; his five siblings: Mary Jeffers (Kenneth), Donald Tinsley, LaVaughn Lindsey (Dave), Janice Senevey (Ron) and Reece Tinsley. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, July 12, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 PM, at the Church at the Crossing. The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 2:30pm at the Church at the Crossing, 9111 Haverstick Road, Indianapolis IN with visitation one hour prior and burial immediately following at Oaklawn Memorials Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Church at the Crossing or the American Liver Foundation-Heartland Branch.
