Jesse M. Butcher passed away peacefully in his home in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 26, 2025, at the age of 95.

A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Jesse was born on February 9, 1930 to the late Roland and Mary (Rees) Butcher. He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1948 and attended Butler University before leaving his studies to serve his country. Jesse was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Navy on the ship USS Newport News.

Having noticed his future wife JoAnn Lindberg from afar while working in the same office building on College Avenue, Jesse worked up the courage to ask her to coffee and she accepted. They married in 1952 and built a loving home for their family in Broad Ripple. The two were married for 34 years before JoAnn passed away in 1986.

Jesse worked for Guarantee Auto throughout his career, starting out sweeping floors as a High School student and rejoining the company as a store manager following his Naval service. He worked his way up the ladder, becoming a purchasing agent and eventually a Vice President at the company.

Jesse spent his retirement proudly caring for his home of 67 years, meticulously maintaining the landscaping in his yard. He deeply valued the sense of community provided by his neighbors whose friendship meant a great deal to him.

Jesse is survived by his daughter Vicki Auble and grandchildren Andrew Auble, Meg Miller, Grace Meils, Hannah Meils, and Jakob Meils, as well as 5 nieces and nephews and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife JoAnn, Jesse was preceded in death by his daughter Karen Meils and his siblings Joyce Migliano, Roland Butcher, and Roy Butcher.

A visitation will be held at Flanner Buchanan in Broad Ripple on March 13, 2025 from 10 am - 12 pm. All friends and family are welcome.

The family asks that donations to Indy Honor Flight be made instead of flowers or other gifts. Indy Honor Flight is a non-profit organization created solely to honor Indiana’s veterans for their service and sacrifice. The organization transports WWII, Korea, and Vietnam veterans to see the memorials built in their honor in Washington DC. Jesse was deeply moved by the recognition he received on an Honor Flight in 2019.
