Jerome Anthony Buchman

July 31, 1943 — December 7, 2020

Noblesville, IN

Jerome (Jerry) Anthony Buchman, 77, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2020. Born on July 31, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was the son of the late Francis Edwin and Esther Matilda (Weimer) Buchman.

As a devout Catholic, Jerry’s life was guided by faith. He served our country as a staff sergeant in the United States Army Reserves. He married his loving wife of 53 years, Cecilia (Ceci) Marie Weidekamp on March 31, 1967 and together they raised two children, Tony Buchman (Claudia) of Tampa, Florida and Jennifer Gentry (David) of Bloomington, Indiana.

Jerry graduated from Little Flower Catholic Grade School in 1958 and Scecina Memorial High School in 1961. He was also a two-time graduate of Indiana University receiving the first of two radiologic degrees in 1972 and the second in 1973. He earned a master’s of business administration from the University of Indianapolis in 1980. He went on to co-create the nuclear medicine department at Winona Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis which helped countless numbers of patients by providing advanced health scans. He spent over 20 years of his career at Winona Memorial Hospital and eventually retired with distinction as the nuclear medicine department manager at Community East Hospital in 2012.

Jerry had a big heart and was a humble servant to others. He and Ceci have been loyal volunteers for the St. Vincent de Paul Society for the last 8 years. He was ever-curious and enjoyed tinkering with electronics and mechanics. He loved taking things apart to see how they worked and never worried if there was an extra part or two left when he put it back together. Jerry was also a musician playing the clarinet and saxophone in his high school band and singing in church choirs for many years. But his true love and passion was spending time at Chapman Lake in Warsaw, Indiana. He vacationed at the lake as a boy and was thrilled to be able to purchase the family cabin in early 70’s. From that point on, Jerry spent every free weekend at the lake with his family fishing, swimming, and driving the boat while the kids water skied or rode on the tube behind it. In his later years, he continued those traditions with his two beloved grandsons, Tyler and Jacob Gentry. Nothing made him happier than sitting in a boat with his grandsons teaching them how to fish.

In his own words, Jerry wrote this:
“My major accomplishments: Two great children who are intelligent, healthy, and productive citizens. A great wife who loves me and is my best friend. I would rather spend time with her, my children, and grandchildren than anyone else.”

He was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Theresa (Buchman) Faust, and brothers John Francis and James Joseph Buchman.
