Jerolyn Lou Axline Dugan passed away peacefully in her daughter’s home in Salt Lake City, UT, February 4, 2021, of natural causes.
Jerolyn was born December 26, 1929, in Noblesville, Indiana, to John Atwell Axline and Marguerite Velma Prewett. Jerolyn attended Andrew’s School in Willoughby, Ohio. She married William Francis Dugan on June 10, 1950, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Indianapolis. They had two children, Jo Ellen and Brian. They moved to Bountiful, Utah, in 2007 to be closer to their daughter. They were married until his death in 2009.
Her first career was as wife and mother. After her children were grown, she worked and retired from R&R Newkirk and then retired from the State of Indiana where she worked as a proofreader for the Indiana Legislature.
Jerolyn was very shy, but one would never know it because she was always so gracious. She quietly did good and many love her for the service she rendered, especially to her neighbors. She was an avid reader reading 15 books, 3 daily newspapers and 1 political magazine each week until she was 89. She loved a good mystery. She loved all sports and had season tickets to the Colt’s games for many years. Her favorites: Colts, Pacers, Jazz, Indianapolis Indians and Arnold Palmer.
Because she was so well read, she could always talk to anyone about anything. Her grandchildren found her a great conversationalist with an engaging sense of humor. She was always up on the latest book, song, movie – whatever they found interesting. No generation gap.
Jerolyn was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Fondly known as GiGi to her great grandchildren, she loved spoiling them with chocolates, ice cream and ‘pink mints’. She had a soft spot for animals, especially cats, often taking in strays or finding them homes.
Jerolyn is survived by her daughter JoEllen Millard (Dennis), 7 grandchildren: Ethan (Emily), Meghan (Jonathan) Shurtz, Miles (Kim), Logan (Janelle), Maeve (Chris) Baughman, Liam (Beth), Maura (Garrett) Beaman; 25 great-grandchildren; and beloved niece Jane Walters. She is predeceased by her husband, William and her son, Brian.
A viewing is scheduled from 4pm –7 pm, Friday, February 12, 2021, at Flanner Buchanan-Speedway, 2950 N. High School Road, Speedway. A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the same location. She will be buried next to her husband and son at Holy Cross Cemetery.
