Jean Marie Julian Guio passed away on Sunday, February 6th. She was Mom to her sons Michael and Julian (Jay), Gigi to her grandsons Jack and Gavin, Jeanne to her many friends, Nurse Jean to her patients and co-workers, and Skippy to Michael (Mike) her devoted husband of more than 52 years.
Jeanne was born on April 28, 1947 to Louis and Filomena Julian and lived in Natick, MA until her marriage. She attended Marian High School in Framingham, MA and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing in Boston. After graduation, she worked in Boston as an operating room nurse.
Jeanne was swept off her feet by Mike, a newly minted FBI Special Agent who was serving in the Boston FBI Office. As there were no female FBI agents in those days, Jean occasionally would accompany Mike on street surveillance in New York’s Little Italy. She was a natural at the role of Italian Girl in the big city.
Our Jeanne was a hard worker and achiever. Her professionalism augmented by a large dollop of good humor enabled her to become Head Nurse in an Emergency Room in Montclair, NJ; her first stop in marriage. After the family moved to Indianapolis, she took a few years off to raise her boys before returning to service as a psychiatric nurse at the St Vincent Stress Center where in short order she became Unit Manager.
Jeanne loved children and would cherish and protect them at every opportunity; even contributing chapters of an academic book combatting exploitation. When her own left the nest on their own adventures, she became the de facto auntie to every young child in her neighborhood. Known affectionately as Miss Jeanne, she remembered all of their birthdays and would always congratulate them on their latest child achievements. However, most of all she cherished her amazing grandsons Jack and Gavin and would brave weather and crowds to cheer them on in their endeavors.
Jeanne had many, many friends, and it was said that she never met a stranger. People have often remarked as to her humor, friendliness, and compassion. Jean was the type of person who always wrote thank you notes of appreciation and rarely visited a friend’s home for a gathering without a gift in hand. Jeanne loved her friends and they loved her. She was a long-time supporter and volunteer for the Indianapolis Little Sisters of the Poor’s St Augustine Guild which shelters the elderly. Her bridge group and book and birthday clubs provided just enough of an output for all of the friendship she had to give.
Jeanne was an avid traveler, and with Mike were official Beach Bums who journeyed to countless locations in the Caribbean and Central America for sunny winter getaways. Her love of the sun was set by childhood summers and later annual trips to Sagamore Beach on Cape Cod where her family has maintained homes since the 60’s. She and Mike marked their 50th with three weeks in Europe. Paris was always her favorite.
Best of all Jeanne and Mike enjoyed date nights by the fireplace, walking every day, and simply the pleasure of each other’s company.
The Guio and Julian families appreciate all the support given by the numerous friends, family, and coworkers who have expressed their condolences. Jean is survived by Mike, sons Michael (Farnoush) and Julian (Natalie), grandsons Jack and Gavin and brother Louis who are all devastated by her passing.
