Jeanne Blake

Jeanne B. Blake of Carmel, IN, passed away on August 18, 2024, at the age of 94. She was born in Chicago, IL, on January 2, 1930, to parents, Charles W. Barrowman and Marguerite (Lester) Smaha. 

Jeanne was a woman of boundless energy and deep passion, dedicating herself wholeheartedly to her family, friends, and the many organizations she served. Her zest for life was evident in everything she did, from earning her pilot’s license at the young age of 16 to attending Northwestern University, and later, raising a loving family.

Jeanne's drive and enthusiasm led her to a diverse career and community involvement. She served as a Page Clerk at the Indiana House of Representatives, Secretary for the Carmel Plan Commission, and a substitute teacher for Carmel Clay Schools and IPL schools. Even into her late 80s, she continued to work as a sales representative for several mini barn companies, always bringing her characteristic vigor to every role.

Her commitment to her community was unwavering. Jeanne was an active member and former President of the Broad Ripple Kiwanis Club, where she also served as a National Delegate. She was deeply involved in the Scottish Society of Indianapolis and was a founding member of the St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church, where she served as Junior Warden.

Jeanne’s spirit and contributions will be dearly missed, but her legacy will never be forgotten.

She is survived by children, Terry (JoAnn) Blake, Baird (Lyn) Blake, Kimberly Blake, Tracy McKenzie; grandchildren, Nicholas (Katie) Blake, Christopher (Brie) Blake, Amanda (Tyler) Dougherty, Shawn Hibbitt, Mackenzie Blake; great-grandchildren, McKenna Blake, Cole Blake, Dylan Blake, Drew Blake, Jase Blake, Clayton Dougherty, Coralie Ward, Harrison Dougherty.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved Aunts, Nell and Beryl Barrowman.

The memorial gathering will be held from 2:30pm until 4:30pm, August 28, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel (325 E. Carmel Dr. Carmel, IN). A Memorial Service will be held at 4:30pm, Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel.
