Jean Mildred Becher (Zeising), born on March 11, 1928, in Jamaica, Long Island, New York, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025, in Zionsville, Indiana. Jean lived her life caring for and supporting her family while also connecting with friends at social events. Celebrated for her unwavering dedication as a homemaker, Jean embraced her role with love and commitment, creating a warm and nurturing environment for her family. Jean and Lester relocated many times with their growing family and lived in New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Indiana.
A proud alumna of Bucknell University in 1949, where she met her husband, Lester, Jean was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. Jean was a voracious reader and instilled that in her children. She served her community as a founding member and past president of the Zionsville Friends of the Library, where she championed literacy and the joy of reading. She also volunteered for years at Crossroads Rehabilitation Center where she supported students with disabilities. Jean attended St. Francis-in-the-Fields since 1976 and found great joy and solace in the church.
Jean always said that the most important achievement in her life was her family. Jean is survived by her children, Thomas Becher (Lauri), Pamela Becher (Jim), Cynthia Strout (Terry), Susan Becher Gilliam (Kurt), and Patricia Gerber, as well as her beloved grandchildren: Samuel, John, Brian, Daniel, Sara, Laura, Eric, Julia, Anneka, Carter, Hayley, Alexa, Zac, and Mackenzie. Jean also had six Great-children and three Great-Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Becher, her parents, Mildred and Stuart Zeising, and her granddaughter Andrea. Jean's legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know her, and her contributions to her family and community will forever be remembered.
