Jean Gertrude Louise Maschmeyer Bardonner passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025.

She was born May 27, 1928 in Indianapolis, IN. A graduate of Emmerich Manual Training High School, she played trombone in both orchestra and marching band. She cherished her time as a music student at Interlochen Arts Summer Camp in Michigan. While attending Indiana University, she studied music, and at Purdue, majored in home economics. In 1948, Jean married her high school sweetheart Eugene R. Bardonner, a Purdue graduate and Hancock County farmer. Son Ken was born in 1949 and daughter Linda came along in 1953. In 1961, Jean earned her undergraduate degree in education from Butler University and later graduated from Ball State University in 1968 with her Master’s Degree in Education. All while being a busy farmer’s wife!

In addition to being farmers, Jean and Eugene were avid gardeners and relished their freshly grown vegetables. “Aunt Jean” was a favorite aunt to her nieces and nephews as she was a great cook and always made them feel welcome in her home. She never missed a holiday or birthday card and her family knew she loved them dearly. “Gram” liked to attend her grand/great grandchildrens’ activities and liked to celebrate with ice cream. Additionally, Jean had a life-long love of music and enjoyed attending the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra performances.

Jean taught at Woodview Jr. High for 4 years, Creston Jr. High for 24 years and served as Dept. Chair for several years. She was a member of Sigma Delta Pi Teacher’s Sorority, the Home Economics Guild of Indianapolis and the American Assn. of Family & Consumer Sciences for 65 years. A woman of strong faith, she was a life-long member of both Pleasant Run E & R and New Palestine United Methodist Churches. Her faith guided her love for family, friends and neighbors
