Jean B. Barnett, 84, of Indianapolis, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017. She was born at home on December 15, 1932 in Belmont County, Ohio to the late Charles A. and Mary (Peltz) Bellinger. At a non-traditional age, Jean attended the University of Indianapolis for 9 years while employed full time. She earned her Associate Degree as a Legal Assistant in 1981, and a Bachelor Degree in Business in 1986. During her career, she worked for various local law firms as a Legal Assistant. Jean was also a longtime member of Old Bethel United Methodist Church. She had a love for hiking, and enjoyed traveling to 26 states; in addition to Canada and Switzerland. Jean was an avid flower gardener and enjoyed watching and feeding the birds. She loved to play tennis and had a passion for sports. Her enthusiasm for IU Basketball, Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Colts, and University of Indianapolis Athletics was second only to her granddaughter’s volleyball games. Jean was married to the love of her life on April 20, 1957. She is survived by her husband, Charlie Barnett; children, Bill Barnett and Brenda (Joe)Toney; grandchildren, Alex Winton, Connor Winton, Kari Barnett; nieces, Linda Pickenpaugh and Rhonda (Jerry) Hinton; nephews, Peter and Paul Barnett. Services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 2pm in Flanner and Buchanan – Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington St., Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jean B. Barnett Endowed Scholarship Fund at the University of Indianapolis.
