Jean Ann Detweiler, 87, of Indianapolis, went home to be with the Lord on October 11, 2021. She was born May 29, 1934, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Guy and Gertrude (Pitcher) Gunckel. Her husband of 46 years, Larry Detweiler, preceded her in passing on July 30, 2021.
Ann was a longtime member of St. Luke Catholic Church. A strong advocate for exercising one’s right to vote, she was a volunteer poll worker for many years. Ann worked in clothing sales for L.S. Ayres/Macy’s for over 30 years, before retiring at the age of 75. She was passionate about helping women look their best and garnered the respect of her many regular customers, who relied on her keen eye for fashion.
She is survived by her three children, Joseph (Carrie) Patterson, Amy (Kel) Winton, and Holly Lindzy; two step-children, Robert (Cyndi) Detweiler and Mary (Peter) Pristasch; grandchildren, Abigail Lindzy and Audrey Patterson; step-grandchildren, Christina Pristasch and Peter John Pristasch; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in passing by her father, Guy Gunckel; mother, Gertrude Lee; stepfather, Harry Lee; first husband of 20 years, Bill Patterson; stepson, Mark Detweiler; brother, Art Gunckel; sister, June Simpson; and sister, Ida Dooley.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 12 p.m. until the time of service. Online condolences may be shared by visiting flannerbuchanan.com.
