Jayson Davis, 41, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away on May 5, 2021.
He was born in Long Beach, California on December 24, 1979 to W. Jay and Carol (French) Davis. Jayson and his sister, Lydia, grew up in Santa Ana, California. Jayson enjoyed all kinds of sports when he was young: basketball, football, a little golf, but mostly baseball. He played catcher from T-Ball through Senior League, from about age 7 to 17. The whole family spent many weekends and nights after school at North East Santa Ana Little League where they all attended games and helped out with scorekeeping, working in the snack bar, field maintenance, and umpiring. Jayson loved the time he spent on the field with good friends and family, and cherished those memories as he got older.
Jayson loved living in California. He was a definite beach bum in the summers, spending time surfing, wake boarding, boogie boarding, and going out with friends on their boats. He loved being in the sun and also going barefoot, even in the middle of winter! Jayson’s sister and parents moved to Indiana when he was in his early twenties, and he joined them soon after. He liked the change of seasons and getting to have snow every year for his birthday. He loved just hopping in the car and driving through fields and small towns enjoying the fresh air and sunshine.
During the summers when school was out Jayson, his sister, and their mom spent time with family in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Jayson loved spending time out in the woods “helping” his grandfather cut down trees and stack wood, and constructing whatever project his grandfather had scheduled for that year. He also loved the water – spending the other half of his time swimming in Lake Superior with his sister and mom, while his grandmother watched from a safe (and warmer) distance. The time spent in Michigan was dear to him throughout his adulthood as well, taking a trip up with his sister most recently in 2019. Although they were only there for a few days, they managed to squeeze in a bonfire, visit with family, eat pasties, and of course, get matching tattoos!
Jayson’s life was fraught with hard choices. As someone struggling with addictions, he made both good and bad decisions for himself. While some may choose to focus on those choices, his family would like you to remember Jayson as he truly was: smart, witty, funny as hell, and a big teddy bear. Those who love him will miss him every day, and those who did not have a chance to meet him have missed out.
Jayson in preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; Jack O. and Merle (Davies) Davis, and his maternal grandparents; Peter R. and Blanche “Bonnie” (TenEyck) French.
Jayson is survived by his loving parents, Jay and Carol (French) Davis, his devoted sister, Lydia (Davis) Coon, his brother-in-law, Perry D. Coon III, and his Uncle and Aunt, Newell and Debbie Davis.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Jayson’s name to the Progress House of Indianapolis, 201 Shelby St, Indianapolis, IN 46202.
