Dr. Jayne Forgey Croghan passed away peacefully at her home in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 8, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Croghan; her parents, Floyd and Flora (Smelser) Forgey; and her sister Carol Forgey.
To her patients and colleagues, she was affectionately known as Dr. Jayne.
Dr. Jayne initially studied and worked as a physical therapist and then graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1980. After graduation, she worked as an emergency room physician but eventually changed the focus of her practice to caring for older adults, first, at the Veteran’s Home in West Lafayette, and then with Advanced Healthcare Associates in Indianapolis. Over her many decades of practice, Dr. Jayne positively impacted the lives of her patients and colleagues with her medical knowledge and compassion.
Dr. Jayne loved to bake delicious homemade bread and pastries for her friends, neighbors, and colleagues. She had a strong Christian faith and played the organ, sang in the choir, and was choir director at her Lutheran Church for many years. She had a profound love of dogs and adopted many shelter dogs over the years. She is survived by her most recent adoptees: Max, Jack Jack, and Baby.
Dr. Jayne will be missed by her many friends, neighbors, and colleagues but we are grateful for the life she shared with us.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor can be made to Tails and Trails Rescue Animal Shelter in Greenwood, Indiana.
Visitation will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229) on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 5 pm – 8 pm. Burial will be private.
