Jay A. Thompson, 68, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on April 8, 2025. Born on January 18, 1957, in Indianapolis, Jay was a proud Hoosier through and through.
On July 4, 1979, Jay married the love of his life, Rosalee E. Thompson, at Tuxedo Baptist Church. Together, they built a beautiful family filled with joy, strength, and unforgettable memories.
A skilled welder and machinist by trade, Jay took immense pride in his craftsmanship and the work of his hands. He was never far from his tools—many of which he collected along with stamps and coins.
Jay was an ornery character with a heart of gold and a sense of humor that could light up any room. Known for giving everyone a unique and hilarious nickname, his wit was as sharp as the tools he worked with.
He was a devout Republican and a proud lifetime member of the NRA. Jay was passionate about his beliefs and never shied away from a good discussion. He was also a World War II history buff who could talk for hours the stories of heroes past. Jay was a very knowledgeable man who never missed and opportunity to teach or quiz his children and grandchildren.
A die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan, Jay stuck with his team through thick and thin, always hopeful that this would be the year. But more than anything, Jay loved his children and grandchildren—they were the light of his life and his proudest accomplishment.
Jay leaves behind a family that will forever cherish his legacy, his stories, and the laughter he brought into their lives. Though he’s no longer with us, the imprint he made on our hearts remains forever.
Jay is survived by his wife, Roasalee Thompson; his children, Jami McClure, James Thompson, Summer Thompson, Gabriel Thompson, and Joshua Thompson; his grandchildren, Jordan Myles, Shyanne Thompson, Trevor Thompson, Scarlett Thompson, and Fantasia McClure; one great-grandchild, Jay Elliott Thompson; and one brother, Gary (Eileen) Thompson.
Jay is reunited in heaven with his parents, Roseretha and Carl Thompson Jr. and his granddaughter, Angel Thompson.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 3PM at Memorial Park Cemetery.
