Jay D. Calhoun, 83, of Indianapolis, IN passed away on December 9, 2021 after a battle with lung cancer. Jay was born in Prestonsburg, KY to parents, Troy and Mollie (Hughes) Calhoun. Jay worked as a steelworker during his career. Following retirement, he also worked as a driver for the Hoosier Lotto. Jay was a member of the Englewood Masonic Lodge #715, and the Steelworkers Union. In his health, Jay enjoyed hunting, fishing, tending to his vegetable garden, and spending time outdoors. Above all, Jay enjoyed spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Mollie; infant grandson, Loïc; and siblings: James Calhoun, Emma Calhoun, Minnie Smith, and Kenneth Calhoun. He is survived by his loving wife, Paula (Dotson) Calhoun; daughter, Elizabeth Eichhorn (John); son, Matthew Calhoun; grandchildren: Evan and Niko, Dean and Marieka; siblings: Phyllis Calhoun, Troy Donald “Don” Calhoun, Patty Burnette, Bonnie Avila, Roy “Brownie” Calhoun, Jean Carol Burton, and Henrietta “Pet” Graham; as well as many other loving extended family members and beloved friends.
Friends may call from 12pm until 1pm, Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis), where funeral services will immediately follow, beginning at 1pm. Burial will follow services in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jay’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
Jay’s family would like to thank Creekside Nursing and Rehabilitation as well as Heritage Hospice for taking good care of him. In addition, they would like to thank Jim Calhoun (Jay’s nephew) and neighbor Howard Claffey for their help and support the past several years.
