Janis (Jan) L. Wells, 77, of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022.  She was born on December 5, 1945, in Kokomo, Indiana to the late Ralph William and Mary Louise (Morris) Neal.

Jan grew up in Kokomo Indiana and graduated from Kokomo High School. On February 6, 1965, she married the love of her life, Michael (Mike) Wayne Wells and joined him in Huntsville Alabama where he was in the 101st Airborne of the United States Army. Jan and Mike moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1968 with their first daughter Dawn where they soon welcomed their second daughter Debra. Jan went to Beauty School which afforded her to work as a hairdresser in her home beauty shop while she ran a household and raised her two daughters. Jan returned to Ivy Tech Community College and earned an Associates Degree to become a Qualified Medical Assistant that allowed her to flourish in a career where she was loved by doctors and patients alike. Jan was never bored always occupying herself with her many hobbies and projects. Jan was a whiz at crossword puzzles and her beloved dog Tobey was never far from arms reach.   Most of all Jan doted on and delighted in the company of her four grandchildren Aubrey, Gabby, Will, and Shannon.  Especially important relationships were developed with her brother’s daughters Kerry, Kathy, Kelly, and Kristy. Jan will be greatly missed and forever in all our hearts.

Jan is survived by her husband of 58 years, Michael (Mike) Wayne Wells; daughter, Dawn Michelle Wells; grandchildren, Gabriella Michelle Harbin and William Reed Harbin; and daughter, Debra Lynn Wells; grandchildren, Aubrianna (Aubri) Layne Wells and Shannon Neal Conley.  Extended family includes too many to mention by name, sisters and brothers in law, cousins, nieces, nephews as well as many special friends. You all know who you are. Jan loved you all very much.

Janis was preceded in death by her parents; Ralph William Neal and Mary Louise (Morris) Neal and Brother Gerald (Jerry) L Neal.

A celebration of her life will be held February the 6th, 5pm –7pm at Flanner Buchanan- Broad Ripple.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: indyhumane, STAR Institute, or Alzheimer’s Association.
