Janice "Jan" June Baker

Indianapolis, Indiana

Janice June Baker, (87), passed away on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.  She was preceded in death by Dale Alan Baker, her husband of 46 years.

Jan was born in Indianapolis, IN on May 11, 1930.  She was the only child of Mahlon and June Addington.  She graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and the Indiana University School of Nursing.  She was a surgical nurse, a dental assistant in her husband’s dental practice, an avid skier, usher for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was equally at home at kids’ swim meets, baseball games and climbing competitions.

She belonged to Old Bethel United Methodist church where she was a fixture in the sanctuary choir. She is fondly remembered for many things, not the least of which is that she was a courageous 37 year breast cancer survivor.

Jan is survived by her three children Mark (Mary), Craig (Julia) and Holle Mack (Michael); her eight grandchildren Dale Baker (Rosie), Kevin Baker (Alaina), Morgan Mack (Erskin), Emily Hiatt (Jacob), Carson Mack, Garrett Mack, Kirsten Dietz, Hallie Dietz; and her great-grandchildren Chase, Lily and Raelyn and her fur-baby Smokey Joe.

The celebration of life funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 2 at Flanner Buchanan-Memorial Park at 6 pm with visitation from 4 pm to service time.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Old Bethel United Methodist Church Music Department, 7995 E 21st St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46219, Attention: June Hannah, Music Director.
