Janet Phelps, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away December 20, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Jan was born August 2, 1930 in Mishawaka, IN to the late Edmund and Ethel Buysse Mitchell. After high school, she attended Indiana University in Bloomington and lived for a time in Chicago, New York and Washington D.C.
An engaging lady with many talents, Jan built an impressive rock collection, created dolls and doll clothing, and executed teddy bear portraits in soft pastel colors. She also found time to be an enthusiastic birder and lover of (most) small creatures. Janet was truly a people person and was a master at finding the best in others. She is greatly missed by all who knew and admired her.
Jan is survived by her loving husband of 37 years John Phelps, children Pamela Allen and Gary Fryar, grandchildren Michael Craney and Amber Clark (Nick), and great grandchildren Ethan and Vivian Clark, and Catalina Galimi.
