Janet Kathryn O'Connell

Janet Kathryn O’Connell, nee Murphy, of Carmel, passed away on January 7, 2023. Janet was born in Indianapolis to the late John and Angelus Murphy. She was an alumna of St. Joan of Arc Catholic School (1960), Ladywood School (1964), and St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana (1968). After graduating from St. Mary’s College, she married her husband, Joseph O’Connell. They would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on February 1. After getting married, Janet and Joseph moved to New York, where they lived for 23 years and had their two children, Michael and Kathleen, before returning to their hometown of Indianapolis in 1992. Janet was a loving wife and mother, and a loyal friend. She was very involved in several groups that play bridge, bunko, and euchre. She was also an avid reader and a member of several book clubs. Janet loved to go on cruises and spend time by the ocean. She and her husband cruised all over the Caribbean as well as Europe, and took several cross-Atlantic journeys. Her greatest joy in life was her two children.

Janet is survived by her loving husband, Joseph; two children, Michael (Ceci) O’Connell and Kathleen (Ross) Bradshaw; three brothers, Dennis (Noreen) Murphy, John Murphy, Brian (Dayna) Murphy; and ten nieces and nephews.

A Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary, 5692 Central Avenue, Indianapolis, IN, 46220. A Funeral Mass will immediately follow. A reception following mass will be held at Prairie View Golf Club, 7000 Longest Drive, Carmel, IN, 46033.
