Janet Lee Bucher

Janet Lee Bucher, 85, passed away February 27, 2025 in Speedway, Indiana. She was born March 2, 1939, in Bloomfield, Indiana to Lee and Marie (Arthur) Bucher. 

Janet is survived by her sister Elizabeth George and nephew Stephen Lee Harris, and several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and step-mother, niece Leanne Johnson, and nephew Ashley Smiley.

Before Janet was twelve months old she was in an automobile accident in Bloomfield, Indiana, which left her with a fractured skull and unable to learn to read or write. 

When she was four years old her mother died from polio. At the age of eight she was admitted to Mustatuck State School in Butlerville, Indiana, for 35+ years. When the school closed for good, she was placed in several private homes where she was able to attend workshops. She eventually came to live with her sister in 1992 in Port Charlotte, FL and Indianapolis, IN until her passing. 

When she was younger, Janet loved to sing. Throughout her life she always enjoyed music and dancing. Although she did not understand card games, she loved to play with several decks of cards. 

Her favorite hobby was collecting photographs. Pictures, pictures, and yes, more pictures. And although she could not understand the value of money she loved receiving money at any time, which she kept in her jewelry box, waiting to go shopping – anywhere. If she saw her sister getting ready to go somewhere, regardless of where it was, she grabbed her pocketbook and was right behind her and ready to go herself. She loved riding in the front passenger seat, with her sunglasses on, no matter where they were going. 

She had her own room decorated in her own style of stuffed animals, framed pictures, puzzles, toys, coloring books, art supplies, and anything she received as gifts. She kept it all in her room. She wanted her television to stay on only channel 13, where she enjoyed watching “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy” every night. Janet also loved making jewelry and wearing jewelry
