Jane Hobbs Joslin

March 24, 1926 — March 11, 2022

Indianapolis, IN

Jane Hobbs Joslin, 95 of Indianapolis, IN passed away on March 11, 2022.  Jane was born in Indianapolis, In. on March 24, 1926, the only child born to Earnest “Earl” and Dorothy E. (Hobbs) Dummich.  She was a graduate of Shortridge High School in 1944, where she played softball and was a member of the Paddle Club.  Growing up, she was a self-proclaimed, tomboy.  She loved spending time outdoors, whether it was swimming at the Riviera Club, fishing with her dad along the White River, helping him fix a car or assisting her mother with planting potatoes in the garden.  She also had many fond memories of her trips to Lake Wawasee with her parents and grandparents, Granny and Arche as well as trips to Muncie, IN. to visit her grandparents by train.

Years later when the boys were ages 4-14, we started traveling to Wisconsin, to stay in a lake cabin. This tradition still exists to this day and has for over six decades. Jane and George also traveled to Florida and bought a home in Largo to live there in the fall and winter for many years.

Following high school, Jane worked for the Marott Shoe Store.  It was there that she was introduced by a friend to George W. Joslin, a handsome soldier who was home on leave from the Army during World War II.  The two enjoyed getting to know one another while dancing and spending time at the Tee Pee outside the fairgrounds. They married on March 31, 1946.

Jane was a dedicated wife and loving mother to their three sons, Scott, Chris and Rick Joslin.  She was outgoing and kind and “never met a stranger”. Jane loved to entertain and host events and her “Rigatoni & Meatballs” will most definitely be missed by all who were lucky enough to enjoy it.

Jane was an active member of Broad Ripple United Methodist Church and later Union Chapel United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed being a member of the XYZ Club, and was a Past-President of the United Methodist Women of Christian Service. She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge and euchre. She was also an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts and the Green Bay Packers. She also enjoyed fishing and playing Golf.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 59 ½ years, George Joslin.  She is survived by her sons, Scott Joslin and his wife Patricia, Chris Joslin and his wife Donna and Rick Joslin and his wife Patricia.  Also surviving are six grandchildren: Christopher R. (Amy), Daniel (Jess), Cheri (Patrick), Katie (Travis), Pam (Scott), and Teddy; eight great-grandchildren: Aaron, Hero, Ash, Riley, Vera Grace, Jalyn, Blake, and our newest addition Spencer; as well as nieces, Sheryl Roberts and Wanda Hughes; nephew, Jim Waldron; niece, Karen Brune; and extended family members and friends.

Calling will be held from 12pm until 3pm on her birthday, March 24, 2022 at Flanner Buchanan-Broad Ripple (1305 Broad Ripple Avenue, Indianapolis), where funeral services will immediately follow, beginning at 3pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jane’s memory may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
