Jane D. Lahr, loving mother and sister, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022. She was 91 yrs young. Born August 2, 1930 to Arthur and Ruth Deming she attended Broad Ripple High School where a french horn player boldly and intentionally sat directly behind her in band. His name was John. There was no other.
After obtaining her associates degree in accounting from Butler University, John and Jane married September 1st, 1950. They moved to Macon, GA. where their two children were born. They returned to Indianapolis in 1962 where John joined his father and brother at JP Lahr & Sons Roofing.
When it was discovered that both children would need braces, Jane began her life-long career of Avon calling. Her career ran from 1968 to 2008, and she garnished multiple sales awards, being promoted to area leader. She was offered the position of District Manager, but after consulting with her family, declined the position. She didn’t want to take too much time away from them. Nevertheless, she won multiple trips to Hawaii through the 1980’s, and in 1978 , due to her commitment and sales accomplishments, was invited to New York City to meet the CEO of Avon Products.
Jane was extremely active at Lawrence United Methodist Church, becoming a member in 1962. She sang soprano in the Chancel Choir until her hearing failed, and was a founding member of the Bell Choir. She directed a version of the popular musical “Chorus Line” for the Church, even editing some language that may have been objectionable. The song “Tits and Ass” became “Fore and Aft”.
Jane had many hobbies, but developed a passion for photography. Many of her entries in the Indiana State Fair won honorable mention. Her passions also extended to collecting Longaberger baskets, PartyLite candles and accessories, and all things Andy Williams.
John preceded her in death, as did her sister Ruth and brother-in-law Tom. She is survived by her son Jim and daughter-in-law Janet, daughter Joanne, and sister Allison. She was the loving Grandmother of four and great-grandmother of six.
Calling will be Saturday, June 11 from noon to 2pm at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, located at 9700 Allisonville Road. The memorial/celebration of life will follow at 2pm, with burial immediately after. Jane requested a going away party; dress will be casual and colorful.
