Jan Anton Szteleblak

93, of Indianapolis, passed away March 31, 2020. He was born on June 10, 1926 in Bedlenka Konskie, Poland as the son of Anton and Maria Szteleblak.

Jan was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Alice during their 72 years of marriage.  Jan, Alice and Petra immigrated to the United states in 1952.  Jan was a hardworking and loyal employee for thirty-five years at Western Electric in Indianapolis.  After his retirement as a supervisor in 1985 Jan and Alice enjoyed going to horse shows and traveling to Chicago to visit the Polish community.  Throughout his life he enjoyed reading, especially about history, gardening, tinkering, camping and dancing with Alice.

Jan was a quiet man but he enjoyed telling jokes and making other people laugh.  Over the last four years Jan had lived in various American Senior Communities.  He was a beloved resident by the staff and other residents who all called him Opa which means grandfather in German, his wife’s heritage.

Jan is survived by his wife, Alice Anna Szteleblak; daughter, Petra Hager (Robert); granddaughter, Stephanie Clifford (Chris); grandson, Peter Schilling (Tricia) and great grandchildren, Kate, Ben, Nick, Matt, Jacob, Alex and Emma.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister,  Zofia Szteleblak  and brother, Marion Szteleblak.

The family will have a private, family funeral service followed with burial at Calvary Cemetery.
