James Watton Weir, 93, Carmel, passed away on January 18, 2019, after a long illness. Born on January 16, 1926, in Oklahoma City, Jim was the oldest child of Frances E. and James M. Weir. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Nancy Mead, and his brother Marshall Weir.
Jim attended Oklahoma University, Knox College, University of Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
After coming to Indianapolis in 1951, Jim taught art in the Indianapolis school system. He joined L.S. Ayres Company as the Art Director of Display. Later, Jim joined the Interior Design department of Ayres. Becoming an Independent Designer, he also taught Interior Design at Butler University. Jim became the Director of Design at Business Furniture Corporation and later became the Interior Design Partner of Richardson Munson and Weir. During this time he was the Director of a retail shop, The Design Studio in the Fashion Mall at Keystone at the Crossing.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Mary Weir, nieces Marcia Kay (Thomas), Sarah Mead Roberts (Brian), and Marsha Stevens (Mark), nephew James Weir (Mia), and companion Robert Willis.
Jim was a member of All Souls Unitarian Church for over sixty years, The Rotary Club, The Portfolio Club, and the Institute of Business Designers.
After retirement, Jim returned to his art. He won many awards for his watercolors. He also continued to travel.
