James Tinsley Overstreet

James T. Overstreet, age 78, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away at home on October 11, 2021. He was born on January 19, 1943 in Cookeville, TN to his mother, the late Olyne Overstreet.

Jim was raised in the valley and he loved hanging out with all his valley friends. James attended Washington High School. He retired from the postal service after 20 years of service. After retiring, he owned and operated his own Semi-truck for many years. James served in the United States Army, Unit 196, from 1961 to 1974. He received a Purple Heart and many special medals and awards. James was a member of the Beech Grove American Legion Post 276.

On December 31, 1976, James married the love of his life, Clara Overstreet. They spent 47 wonderful years together. They had been married for 44 years.

James loved spending time with his family in Madison, Indiana at Sandy Beach for 31 years. He enjoyed boating, water skiing, jet skiing, swimming, boat trips, campfires, and enjoying his beer with family and friends. James also loved going to casinos and playing Texas Hold-em. James had such an unusual, great sense of humor, making everyone laugh.

James was an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.

James is survived by his amazing wife, Clara Overstreet; daughters, Shalane (Chris) Walker, Maxine (Dean) Marcum, Michelle (Michael) Brosmer; son, Michael (Samantha) Cunningham; brother, Ray (Marty) Overstreet; half-brothers, Fred (Mary) Overstreet, Robert (Lisa) Overstreet, Russell (Lynette) Overstreet, Richard (Alicia) Overstreet; half-sisters, Pat (Doug) Green, Sandra (John) Phipps; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Floral Park (425 North Holt Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46222) on Thursday, October 21^st from 10am to 4pm. An additional visitation will be held at Floral Park on Friday, October 22^nd from 10am-Noon with Service to follow at noon.
