James Lee Davis was born on April 16, 1924, to the late Elmer Davis and Minnie Lee Davis (Long) in Lancaster, Kentucky.
James was a proud WWII veteran, having served in the United States Navy from 1943 until 1946 in the Pacific theater. After his discharge from the Navy, James returned to Indianapolis. James married Mary Elizabeth Mulkey on July 27, 1951. They had one daughter, Brenda Kay Leveque (Davis).
James was an active member of the Church at the Crossing, formerly known as Northside Church of God. For several years James and his grandson, Eric, volunteered with the maintenance team at his church. After James retired in 1989, he cherished playing golf and bowling with his brother, Paul, and grandson, Eric. James and Mary also took frequent day trips throughout Indiana. A nature-lover, James loved being outdoors, whether gardening, or passing time on his porch, or going for walks.
His wife, Mary, and brothers, Charles and Paul, predeceased James. Daughter Brenda Leveque (Dan Leveque) and grandson Eric Leveque (Katelyn Klingler) survive along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will take place on Monday, April 11, 2022, at Flanner and Buchanan–Floral Park; visitation begins at 11:00am, and the service starts at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Floral Park Cemetery.
