Sergeant James Leslie Johnson, age 68, oldest son of Elsie Johnson and Leslie Hall was born on November 11, 1950 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1969 where he participated in ROTC and excelled in golf.
Mr. Johnson accepted Christ as a young man and was a deacon of Zion Hope Baptist Church for many years. He was a United States Army veteran and took great pride in serving his community as a police officer for the Indianapolis Police Department for 32 years. One of the many proud moments of his career was when he was promoted to Sergeant in 1988. The strong bond he created with his brothers can never be severed.
James was united in marriage to Elaine Hill on August 25, 1979 and were married for 40 years until his passing on November 7, 2019. His mother preceded him in death.
He enjoyed listening to the Blues, traveling, and had a special knack for cooking Jamaican cuisine. He loved bowling, wine tastings, camping, and planning vacations for the family.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his younger brother, Mark Johnson; sons Chae M. Johnson (Krista) and Ryan J. Berry; daughters Misty L. Johnson and Jennifer E. Johnson; grandchildren Adriea Montgomery, Chae Johnson Jr., Jaylen Johnson, Asia Price, Alijah Price, Avery Price, and Ryan Janae Berry.
This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
