James L. Fischer, 76, Indianapolis, passed away March 28, 2017. He was born October 4, 1940, in Quincy, IL, the son of the late Robert G. and Louise (Lechtenberg) Fischer. He married Constance Kuhlman on June 9, 1962.
Jim was a 1958 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame High School. He received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1962. He retired from Trane Company after 43 years of service.
Jim had a great devotion to his Catholic faith and family. He was a proud member of Holy Spirit at Geist, where he was active in the Stephen Ministry and served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a previous member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, where he was a Lector and served on the Sports Committee. He was a member of ASHRAE and the Notre Dame Club of Indianapolis. He enjoyed being active, playing tennis and softball, water and snow skiing, along with hiking and traveling. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 55 years, Constance Fischer; five children, Michael (Kari) Fischer, Jeanne (Christopher) Auffrey, Jill Petruzzi, Thomas (Maureen) Fischer, Jaclyn (Jonathan) VanWoerkom; and 13 grandchildren, David and Erin Fischer, Kristin and Michael Auffrey, Cynthia Schieler, Daniel Petruzzi, Patrick, Anna, Mae, and Ellie Fischer, and Thomas, Kara, William VanWoerkom. He is also survived by his siblings, Ann Meckes, Barbara (Jim) Long, and Dr. Donald and Hon. Nora Barry Fischer; two brothers-in-law, Jack (Sharon) Kuhlman and Jim (Alberta) Kuhlman; two sisters-in-law, Janice (Jim) Hunt and True (Patrick) Flachs; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in passing by two grandchildren, Megan Fischer and Eric Petruzzi; and a brother-in-law, Dr. Richard Meckes.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2017, at Holy Spirit at Geist, 10350 Glaser Way, Fishers. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2017, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Quincy Notre Dame High School, Food for the Poor, or the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
