James (Jim) Edgar Higgins, 82, Indianapolis, IN went to his heavenly home on January 26, 2022. Jim was born on September 9, 1939, in Bicknell, Indiana to Nellie and James Emit Higgins. Jim graduated from Plainfield High School in 1957. Jim worked at Westlake Golf Course in Indianapolis where he eventually met Evelyn who later became his wife of 62 years. They were married on August 30, 1958. Jim and Evelyn lived briefly in Norfolk, Virginia while Jim was serving in the United States Navy, before eventually moving back to Indianapolis. Jim’s career began at Time Systems Company as a sales manager where he worked for over 40 years. After leaving Times Systems Co. he worked for Hiram Hash and Sons for about 5 years before leaving and going to work for Home Depot as a cashier. Jim would often say that he started working as a cashier to overcome his shyness. Jim and Evelyn began their family with Kimberly Sue (Higgins) Wolford, followed by James Landis Higgins. Jim was very involved in the activities of his children from coaching little league, supporting scouts, band / choral events, and various other school activities. He also enjoyed volunteering with the Salvation Army and Riley Cancer Research for Children alongside his wife Evelyn. Jim’s most memorable experience was when he was escorted by his son on the Indy Honor Flight to Washington DC on April 1, 2017, to visit the memorials around Washington and the Arlington National Cemetery. He also enjoyed playing in various church orchestras and enjoyed playing with his daughter and son in duets and trio’s. Jim was active with Chapel Rock Christian Church as a Class President for the Crusaders Sunday School Class.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents James Emit Higgins and Nellie Rose Austermiller, son-in-law Thomas Wolford, and his beloved wife Evelyn Hestelle Higgins.

Jim is survived by his children Kimberly Sue Wolford and James (Judy) Higgins, sister Judy (Higgins) Goens, he also left behind grandson Andrew (Savannah) Wolford and granddaughters Kristy Cooper and Mari Anne (David) Wilhite. He also left behind several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Roudebush Veterans Administration Hospital, the nurses and doctors that cared for him over the years. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Chapel Rock Christian Church, the Indy Honor Flight or the Central Indiana Salvation Army Disaster Services.
