James G. “Jim” Hatfield, 77 of Westfield, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Jim was born November 9, 1947 in Shaker Heights, OH to the late James E. and Ruth Hatfield. He was a veteran of the US Army. Jim earned his PhD. from Indiana University, his master’s degree from the University of Richmond and bachelor’s degree from Hanover College.
Jim was a school psychologist for Perry Township School system beginning in 1980 until his retirement in 2018.
Jim was a photographer for an automobile racing magazine, having had 17 magazine covers published. He attended many races in Indiana, Ohio, New York, and Wisconsin, often to get photos for the magazine. Jim had a keen interest in model trains that started when he was a child. He had built an elaborate train set-up in his basement with handcrafted buildings. Jim enjoyed his time with Kathy at their a Hayward Lake vacation house in Wisconsin where he could be found driving his pontoon on the lake and fishing.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 14 at 11:00 am at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, where family and friends are invited to gather from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 15 at Oak Grove Cemetery, Washington, IN.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kathleen; brother, Hayes H. (wife, Sandra) Hatfield; sister, Sarah L. “Sally” Farmer; 11 nieces and nephews.
