James “Jim” Edwin Banks, of Fountaintown, Indiana, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018 at the age of 87. Jim was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 13, 1931 to John A. and Irene (Lantz) Banks.
Jim was a very hard worker and enjoyed being outdoors. He joined the United States Army at the age of 20. He proudly served two years for his Country. He began working for the Singer Corporation repairing sewing machines. He retired after 30 years.
Jim loved to bowl in his free time. He also enjoyed activities that he could be outside doing such as fishing, yard work, and searching for arrow heads in the fields; which he was able to recover many of.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene Banks; sister, Lucille Leslie and brothers, Ronald and Richard Banks.
He is survived by: daughter, Paula and her daughter Cassie and three great-grandchildren; son, Herb and his children Belva, Sandy, Brian and 10 great grandchildren; daughter Leslie and her children Jimmy, Heather, Joey and 1 great grandchild; son Jay and his children Christina and Jayson and 4 great grandchildren; daughter Penny and her children, Judy, Jennie, John and 11 great grandchildren; son Stevie and his daughter Andrea and one great grandchild; daughter Tammy (Gary, Sr.) and her children Gary Lynn, Jr., April, Kevin, Wendy and 11 great grandchildren; and brother Bob Banks; as well as a host of many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E Washington St., Indianapolis, on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 12-2pm. Services will begin at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
