James E. Cheshire

February 15, 1952 — July 2, 2020

Indianapolis, Indiana

After a long battle with many health issues, Jim passed away on July 2, 2020. Born to Pete and Gladys Cheshire on February 15, 1952 in Indianapolis.

Preceded by sister Carol and brother Tom, James E. Cheshire was born third to hardworking parents, Keith and Gladys, followed by youngest brother Paul. Warm summers were spent investigating acres and acres of their grandparents farm and playing baseball with neighborhood kids in the streets of Indianapolis. Naturally athletic and popular Jim attended Broad Ripple High School where he played football and began collecting what would become lifelong friendships. He went on to play football at Butler university. He married Missy and soon after found a home on Winthrop Avenue and welcomed two sons, Joe and Danny. These were the young family’s happiest years, filled with cherished memories. July 4th celebrations, Brown county excursions, golden retrievers, and Indy 500 race days. Gifted in sales, all can agree it didn’t matter what was being sold, Jim could sell it to you. Electrical sales became his focus, and he spent 30 + years working with local vendors and clients.

Youngest son, Danny challenged Jim on most subjects, but both share a wicked sense of humor and could connect there. Eldest son, Joe,  had his own career in college football, and has coached Butler football  for the past decade. You could always find proud Jim a few yards behind Joe and the team on the sidelines. Many happy returns to his glory days. In his late years this was no doubt one of his happiest places to be.

It would be remiss to not mention the friendships he held near, many go back as far as childhood. A brotherhood he cherished like family. He was the glue. Making sure everyone stayed connected. The most incredible sense of humor and sharp sarcasm made him a gifted storyteller….and there were many stories to choose from.

Towards the end Jim struggled with pulmonary hypertension. Knee problems and past injuries began to slow the former physical giant down. Hospital stays allowed time for reflection and quiet. Many amends were made and of course many stories told. Who can tell them now with such gusto? Goodbye to dad, to brother, to friend. So long.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, sister, and grandparents. He is survived by his two sons, Joe and Danny. Daughter in law, Ashleih. Grandchildren, Griffin, Charlie, and Jack. Brothers, Tom and Paul(Yvonne). Nieces and Nephews, Melissa, David, Mechelle, Sara, and Brian.

A gathering to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at a later date.
