James Denton Burdine, 86, of Greenfield, passed away on December 5, 2022. Denton, as he was commonly known, was born in Somerset, KY on February 22, 1936, to parents, Fordie and Alice (Baker) Burdine. On May 9, 1953, he married the love of his life, Emma Ellen Kirgan, and the two shared 69 loving years together. He retired from Kroger Bakery, where he worked for over 40 years.
Denton and Emma attended Outlook Christian Church. They loved traveling, especially their yearly vacations to Sanibel, FL. He was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and NASCAR and also enjoyed yardwork, tending to his pool, and tinkering in the garage.
Denton was preceded in death by his wife, Emma on May 27, 2022. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Fordie and Alice, and siblings Junior, Clifford, Dorwin, Lois and Myrel.
Denton is survived by his children: Jim Burdine (Jeannie), Lu Ann Bolander (Jeff), Debbie Esters (Kerry), Tim Burdine (Alice) and Otis Burdine (Kay); 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and siblings Marvin, Unice, Letha, Carlos and Shirley.
Visitation will be held from 11am until 1pm, Monday, December 12, 2022, at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East (10722 E. Washington Street), where funeral services will immediately follow, beginning at 1pm. Burial will follow services in Washington Park East Cemetery.
