James D. Weigel

September 8, 1949 — February 15, 2023

Indianapolis, Indiana

James (Jim) Weigel, age 73, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on February 15, 2023.  He was born on September 8, 1949, in Bloomington, Indiana to the late Morton and Evelyn Weigel.

Jim attended University High School in Bloomington, Indiana where he played Basketball and Golf and placed 2nd in the state of Indiana for Golf his Junior year.  Jim went on to attend Indiana University where he graduated in 1971 with a major in Business.  He began his career in sales with Wilson Foods after college.  In 1973, Jim married his sweetheart Debbie.  They lived in Michigan, Oklahoma, and Maryland before making their way back to Indiana in 1977.  The last 13 years of Jim’s career was spent as a Division President for Empire Food Brokers where he also held the title of “Party Planner”.

The best thing in life to Jim was family and friends.   He loved spending time at his lake home, playing golf and spending time in Florida.  He was an avid Chicago Cubs, Indianapolis Colts, and IU fan and if he wasn’t at a game, you could find him watching on TV and “encouraging” the refs to make better calls.  Most of all he was the biggest fan of his grandson Jake whenever he played baseball and his granddaughter Natalie whenever she was dancing.

Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years, Deborah Weigel; daughters Laura (Richard) Winzenread of McCordsville, Indiana, and Mary Berry of Los Angeles, California; brother William (Kay) Weigel of Indianapolis, Indiana, and sister Nancy (Kevin) Sherrick of Columbia City, Indiana; and grandchildren Jake and Natalie Winzenread.

You are invited to celebrate Jim’s life on Wednesday, February 22 at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel (325 East Carmel Drive, Carmel, IN 46032).  Visitation is from 2-4pm with a memorial service to follow at 4pm.  There will not be a graveside service.
